Dreaming Again, originally commissioned by the NH Humanities Council in 2011, will be touring the state of New Hampshire again this fall, in collaboration with Mariposa Museum in Peterborough.  Written by Genevieve Aichele, Dreaming Again features the stories of New Hampshire immigrants and refugees over the past 100 years. On September 5, 1813, the HMS Boxer and the USS Enterprise engaged in a naval battle off the coast of Monhegan during the War of 1812. The dominant Royal Navy engaged the developing U.S. Navy in many battles during the war, but the battle of the Boxerand the Enterprise embodied a level of honor and respect not seen in modern warfare. Portsmouth has been a center for historic preservation, decorative arts, scholarship, and archaeological study for many years, but baskets as part of the region's artistic and historic heritage have been largely unstudied. This lack of scholarship has resulted in significant gaps in knowledge about the role Native Americans played in the development of the provincial seaport town. An October 5 project hopes to change that. (See details below)
