Chester Nez, surviving member of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers from World War II, will share his experience with seacoast residents on August 18 at 2:00 pm at the Seacoast Repertory Theater. Nez and others developed a code within their native Navajo language to aid the WWII effort against the Japanese. (Continued below)

Three hundred years after the Berwicks were established among Maine’s colonies, the Old Berwick Historical Society offers vivid clues about early life here. Three exhibits and a series of public events this summer and fall let visitors experience the sights and sounds of early colonists and natives who lived in  what became Berwick, South Berwick, and North Berwick. Bring your bells, musical instruments, and your voices to a New Orleans style celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s historic March on Washington.  The Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail will be among hundreds of organizations across the nation sponsoring events on Wednesday, August 28th at 3 pm in commemorating Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement. Canterbury Shaker Village will celebrate Mother Ann Day on Sunday, August 4, from 10:00 am-5:00 pm. Tickets are $17 for adults, $8 for children ages 6-17, children under 5 are free.
