Lynx to Receive Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence Print Email

January 2011 – The National Maritime Historical Society has named Woodson K. Woods and the 1812 reproduction Lynx with the NMHS Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Maritime Education. The official award ceremony will be held at the New York Yacht Club in October 2011. The award is to be presented to Woods and his team for designing, building and crewing the 1812 privateer Lynx, but most specifically for creating the Lynx sailing program to incorporate sail training with a hands-on educational experience of history. Woodcut Sales to Benefit Gundalow Company Print Email

DECEMBER 2010: The Gundalow Company is pleased to announce the availability of custom-designed, limited edition woodblock prints depicting the Piscataqua gundalow anchored in Little Harbor in front of the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Donated by local artist, Shane P. Chick, twenty color prints are now available for purchase at $250 each (matted, unframed) with the proceeds supporting the Gundalow Company.  (Continued below)

 
Portsmouth Library Seeking Old High School Yearbooks Print Email

DECEMBER 2010 – Do you have pre-1948 yearbooks from Portsmouth High School? The Special Collections room at the public library wants to gather a complete set and is putting out a call to locals and former locals who may wish to donate a yearbook from the first half of the 20th century. This completed collection will be a great resource for historians and genealogy fans who visit the History Room at the PPL. (Continued below)

 
NH Scholarships for Native American Art Classes Print Email

November  2010 -- New Hampshire teachers and low-income residents can receive scholarships to attend the Native American Living Arts Program at  Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, Education and Cultural Center.  The program offers a monthly hands-on class designed to promote understanding and appreciation of how the artifacts in the Museum were made and used and to help preserve and promote traditional Native arts and skills for future generations.   Thanks to a grant from the NH State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts the museum can offer financial assistance of 50-100% of class costs. (Continued below)
