Jeff Bolster Wins Bancroft Prize for MORTAL SEA Print Email

We predicted this would be a big one for Prof. W. Jeffrey Bolster of Portsmouth, NH. Columbia University announced today that two acclaimed works will be awarded the 2013 Bancroft Prize: a gripping and eloquent history of the human impact on the ocean, and a persuasively argued history of the idea that conflict among nations can be regulated by law. "Lighthouse Guy" Jeremy D'Entremont reports that our signature lighthouse is subject to a new Stamp Act, only this time we won't be protesting.  Here's the note from Jeremy: Exciting news! The U.S. Post Office will soon be releasing a new series of five New England Coastal Lighthouse stamps. Best American Revolution Book Awarded Print Email

Reporting the Revolutionary War: Before It Was History, It Was News by Todd Andrlik is being awarded the annual prize of best American Revolution book by The New York Revolutionary War Round Table. This great honor puts Andrlik in the prestigious company of previous winners, including Maya Jasanoff, professor of history at Harvard’s Center for European Studies, for her book, Liberty’s Exiles: American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World; Benjamin L. Carp, professor of history at Tufts University, for Defiance of the Patriots: The Boston Tea Party and the Making of America; Mary Beth Norton of Cornell University; Charles Bracelen Flood; and Thomas Fleming. (Continued below)
