Several traveling artists, among them William King and William Bache set up shop in Portsmouth for brief periods and offered their services. On Monday, July 4th, Strawbery Banke Museum rings with a fun-filled family commemoration of the nation's 235th birthday. The 10th annual “An American Celebration” event takes place at the Museum from 10 am to 5 pm and includes Revolutionary War re-enactors, a visit from Abe Lincoln, an insider's view of the shipyard where the new Gundalow is being built, and nearly every kid's activity imaginable. Captain John Paul Jones (1747-92), the celebrated naval hero of the American Revolution, is the subject of a new exhibit presented by the Portsmouth Historical Society at their John Paul Jones House Museum in Portsmouth NH. Open through October 31, 2011, “John Paul Jones: American Naval Hero, Real & Imagined” recalls the time he spent in Portsmouth in 1777 and again in 1781-82. (Continued below)
