November 2009 – Are patriotic essay contests still in play? NH says yes. Each year Granite State kids are invited to write an essay on a topic connecting their lives to the US Constitution. This year’s topic focused on the hot issue of banning certain tee shirts in schools. (Read about the winners below)

 
Shipyard Installs New Commander Print Email

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard -- Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will hold a Change of Command ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on October 9, 2009, on the Shipyard's Mall. At this time Captain Robert W. Mazzone will be relieved by Captain L. Bryant Fuller III as Commander, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. This event is not open to the general public. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (NH -1 D) will be the Shipyard's honored guests at this event. Honors will be rendered for the Senator during the ceremony with a 19-9un salute. (Click to read more)

October 2009 -- This coming weekend, the Eagle Mountain House will be hosting on of the largest "collection" of international guests in its history with visitors from 25 different countries. This will be a milestone for the Eagle Mountain House and probably any hotel in the Mt. September 2009 -- Local historic preservation groups take notice. There are small matching grants available to nonprofit groups. National Trust Preservation Funds provide two types of assistance to nonprofit organizations and public agencies: 1) matching grants from $500 to $5,000 for preservation planning and educational efforts, and 2) intervention funds for preservation emergencies. Great Works Mill Model Displayed Print Email

September 2009 -- A scale replica of the 19th century woolen mill standing at Great Works in South Berwick will be on display from through October 10 at the Counting House Museum. The model, made by Bryan Madison of Connecticut, will travel here in time for a family reunion of descendants of mill owner John H. Burleigh.
