Portsmouth Naval ShipyardStrawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #16

This group posed at the Navy Yard some time between 1882 and 1885 while repairing the USS MARION. The photo includes a ship’s carpenter, machinist, a watchcap and rigger. Mark Fernald (in center with Whiskers) was the only Portsmouth resident. Note that there are men standing on the mast in the distance. Brrrr,,Cold.
