Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #24
An independent porter, Wibird spent his life pushing goods around the streets
of Portsmouth in a sky-blue wheelbarrow. Thomas Bailey Aldrich wrote that Wibird
kept his expressionless face focused toward the sky as he worked. He seemed unaware
that local boys often jumped into his wheelbarrow for a free ride. Wibird died
in 1867 at the age of 76.(Click for full pic)
