HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #93

Three royal governors, all Wentworths, ruled over 18th century NH. This stately Puddle Dock home belonged to John Wentworth, first of the family dynasty that ended with the American Revolution. Sadly, "antiques" dealer Charles Stewart paid $3,500 and deconstructed it in the 1920s. The Metropolitan Museum (NY) and Winterthur Museum (DE) purchased some of its fine woodworking.
