Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #9
This extraordinary photo, when blown up, shows dozens of Portsmouth students
in excellent detail during an outing to Stratham by train. In the center of the
kids is the bearded Rev. Henry Emerson Hovey of St. John’s Church, rector from
1883 to 1909. We can only wonder how many influential Portsmouth citizens are
among the urchins captured here.
