York Decorator Show House 2011

York_Decorator_Show_HouseMARK YOUR CALENDAR

Every summer for the past 22 years, Museums of Old York has hosted thousands of visitors at its annual Decorator Show House. This year will be no exception. This year’s fundraiser runs from Saturday, July 16 through Saturday, August 13 and will be held at Emerson House, located at 31 Long Sands Road in the heart of historic York Village.  (Continued below)

Emerson House is a beautiful Georgian Colonial residence whose earliest roots date back to circa 1719 as a Tavern bidding travelers a place to seek lodging and entertainment. John Adams is known to have stayed in one of the tavern rooms believed to be the current home’s living and dining rooms.

York artist Kathryn Carter has painted a watercolor rendering of the house. Kathryn is past president of the York Art Association and a member of several New England art collaboratives. She is well noted for her paintings of homes, historic buildings and seacoast landmarks.

Tickets are still available for a designer discussion and luncheon on August 10 at The York Harbor Reading Room and can be purchased by calling (207) 363-4974.

The event is possible because of the work of many dedicated designers and a corps of more than 300 volunteers, and the support of museum members and the community who put their heart and soul into every aspect of making this event possible. Their gift of time and dedication is remarkable and greatly appreciated by Museums of Old York Staff. According to Event Coordinator, Beverly Young, “This exciting project, filled with its share of twists and turns, trials and tribulations, always proves to be fun for all involved.”

Volunteers are vital to a smooth-running Show House and are needed to host and help direct parking. If you are interested in helping out as a host or parking attendant, please contact Laura Dehler, Development Director at Museums of Old York at (207) 363-4974 ext. 13. Each volunteer is asked to make a commitment of two 3-hour shifts in exchange for free admission to the Show House during the entire run.
