Throughout the holiday season, the Whittier Home, 86 Friend Street, Amesbury, is filled with the sights and sounds of Christmas past and present. Lights are sparkling, traditional wreaths and garlands are draped over everything that will stand still and carols are ringing through the air – it must be time for the holidays! (Continued below)

Join the Whittier Home friends on Sunday, December 12th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm for their annual Community Open House and celebration of our historic poet, John Greenleaf Whittier. Sue Curry and the Garden Committee will be decorating the home in true Victorian fashion, the cut-glass period punchbowl will be the centerpiece, and the table will be laden with a selection of sweets, nuts, seasonal fruits and candies. Dawn Bennett will lead mini tours of the home. Hope Cole and her committee will host the event, and the Gift Shop will be open for holiday purchases. This is a complimentary event for townspeople.

Celebrate Whittier’s’ 203rd Birthday at the Ristorante Molise on December 17th at noon. Enjoy a delicious lunch and holiday music with classical guitarist, John Tavano. Other events include a Carol Sing led by Cynthia Costello, president, and Marge Anderson and a trivia contest on John Greenleaf Whittier. Guests are welcome to attend. Tickets are $25.00. Holiday donations are most welcome and are tax deductible. Call 978-388-1337 or 978-388-2552 by December 12th to reserve luncheon tickets.
