Whistling Death at Portsmouth Air Show June 30 and July 1

Blue_angelsMARK YOUR CALENDAR

Get your ear protection out and stock your bomb shelter, the supersonic jets are heading back this way – and bringing their friends. The Service Credit Union Boston-Portsmouth Air Show announced that the F4U-5 Corsair, P-51 “Quicksilver”, B-25 “Panchito” and TBM-3E “Avenger” will complete the performer lineup for the 2012 schedule . (Continued below)

This year’s show will take to the skies at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease on June 30 and July 1 and will feature the United States Navy Blue Angels.  The Portsmouth Air Show is being jointly produced by the Daniel Webster Council, Boy Scouts of America and the Brain Injury Association of New Hampshire. These two organizations, along with more than 30 other local not-for-profit groups, benefit from the show. (Editor note: How much will they benefit? We look forward to seeing the stats.)

The F4U-5 Corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft primarily during WWII and the Korean War. The aircraft received the nickname of “Whistling Death” during the war, having a kill ratio of 11:1. This year the demonstration will be flown by Daniel McCue who was born in Maine and raised in New Hampshire. McCue has been an avid air show performer for over 25 years and is excited to be flying his “Quick Silver” at this year’s show.

The P-51 Mustang “Quick Silver” is an American-made long-range single-seat fighter aircraft primarily engaged in service during World War II. The P-51 Quick Silver, also known as “The Resurrected Veteran”, celebrates our nation’s armed forces. Thoughtfully designed, each paint feature represents and honors those who have served our country and who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Experience the incredible, unique sound of the P-51 engine as it performs high power aerobatic routines in the sky. Father and son tem Bill and Scott “Scooter” Yoak spent 13 years meticulously working to make the P-51 Mustang a reality.

The Disabled American Veterans Flight Team brings their iconic World War II era B-25 “Panchito” to this year’s show. The B-25, which gained notoriety in the famed Doolittle Raid over Tokyo, Japan 70 years ago, shares a modern-day mission with DAV -- reminding people of the sacrifices veterans make for freedom.
