Archaeology has long been an important science used around the world. It reveals the secrets of the past. Here at the Chase House site at Strawbery Banke Museum a clearer picture is forming. Artifacts unearthed here provide new information that can be compared to data drawn from written inventories, diaries, and journals, creating a fuller story. We are learning, not only about the families who lived in the Chase House, but about the home for children that operated in this historic building. We also learn new things about the developing neighborhood that surrounds the property. Current research is focusing on the past economy, industry, ethnic heritage, and the daily life in Portsmouth.
