Volunteer Your Time at the Independence Museum

American_Independent_Museum2The American Independence Museum will hold a volunteer information meeting in the Ladd-Gilman House on Thursday, March 8 at 10a.m. for those individuals interesting in volunteering their time. There are many opportunities available, such as assisting in the Museum Shop, leading tours, teaching school programs, helping with events, light gardening, small maintenance or carpentry projects as well as assisting with marketing and office tasks. (Continued below)

Volunteers can commit to as much time as they’d like or a specific day of the week.

“We have volunteers who are students, seniors, and stay-at-home moms interested in adding new skills to their resumes,” said Julie Tiebout, the museum’s Marketing and Development Director.  “Some people have a strong interest in or knowledge of history, but it’s not necessary for someone to feel that they must have that as we provide comprehensive training.”

“The Museum receives visitors from all over the country and the world, eager to learn about the American Revolution and Exeter’s part in the founding of our nation.  Giving a tour is a fascinating experience as one never knows who will visit that day,” said Tiebout.  “It’s a rewarding personal experience as well, because our guides become more and more confident in speaking to the public and learn some new tidbit of history that they can then share during another tour.  Last year our volunteers collectively gave more than 2200 hours of their time!”

For those who may be interested in volunteering, but are unable to attend the March 8 Informational Meeting, alternate arrangements can be made by contacting Stephanie Hewson at 603-772-2622.

The American Independence Museum, located at One Governors Lane in Exeter, NH, connects America’s revolutionary past with the present by preserving and interpreting the role that one family, one town, and one state played in the founding of the new republic.  Visit www.independencemuseum.org for more information.
