Vintage and Vine September 10

In wine country, each year's vintage holds great promise. As the grapes ripen on the vines, the mood in the vineyards turns to anticipation. What will the storied names produce this year? At Strawbery Banke Museum, the annual Vintage & Vine fundraiser -- Saturday, September 10, 2011, 4-7 pm -- brings the same sense of opportunity. (Continued below)

Not only is the event presented in partnership with the New Hampshire Liquor & Wine Outlets, offering a rare chance to pair hundreds of wines with some of the Seacoast's best chefs and restaurants; it's also a chance to raise a glass to the Portsmouth's storied past on the very spot where 400 years of history was made. Vintage & Vine 2011 is a fine wine and gourmet food tasting tour through Strawbery Banke Museum's historic houses and gardens at which wine may be purchased at a discount for one night only. And this year's event promises to be even more of a magical history tour than last.

The premise is simple: give guests the opportunity to sample the creations of Portsmouth's best chefs with hundreds of wines from the incomparable New Hampshire Liquor & Wine Outlets (including samplings of some of the rarest wines available in the state) and host the event in the historic houses, under tents and in the lavish gardens of Portsmouth's largest historical site - Strawbery Banke Museum.

Five star chefs will demonstrate their skills and prepare signature dishes on center-stage grills while dozens of the Seacoast's finest restaurants display their culinary favorites in the Victory Garden, the Walsh House, the Heritage Garden, the Pitt Tavern, the Chase House, and other historical locations throughout Puddle Dock. Add magical touches like winery experts offering tasting tips, live music by Rhythm Method, a bonfire, a silent auction of some otherwise unobtainable items, and a VIP Reserve Wine Tasting in the Goodwin Garden- all to raise funds to keep the Museum's great work in education, preservation, heirloom gardens and historical research going. And that's Vintage & Vine 2011.

This year's event showcases food and wine selections that match the distinctive grounds and buildings. Participating restaurants to date include: Anneke Jans, Arrows, Black Trumpet Bistro, Blue Mermaid Island Grill, Brazo, Cafe Mediterraneo, Dolphin Striker, Flatbread Company, Hebert Brothers Seafood, Mombo, Oar House, Poco's Bow Street Cantina, Radici, Ristorante Massimo, Rudi's Portsmouth, Seaport Fish, Surf Restaurant, The 100 Club, The Carriage House, The Farm Bar & Grille, The Green Monkey, and Wentworth by the Sea Hotel.

"Vintage & Vine offers guests a rare chance to become a part of the history of Strawbery Banke's historic houses and gardens," said Lawrence J. Yerdon, president of Strawbery Banke Museum. "While sipping fine wines from around the world in the drawing rooms of Portsmouth's past, guests are transported to the waterfront of Puddle Dock, supporting the Museum's mission of keeping our history alive while living in the moment of Portsmouth's great quality of life. While celebrating Portsmouth's great food and wine, Vintage & Vine is also an annual celebration of why we're here."

Winery representatives will spend the evening offering their knowledge with samples of their wine offerings; and all wines being tasted will be available to order at a discount for this one night only.
