UU South Church Pocket Garden Tour
UU South Church Pocket Garden Tour
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
Get happily lost wandering the side streets of Historic Portsmouth, with its charming colonial houses and hidden gardens.  This year is the 21st Annual Pocket Garden Tour, on Friday June 18th, from 5 to 8 pm, and Saturday June 19th, from 9 am to 3 pm. The tour will focus on gardens in neighborhoods bounded by Islington Street and Middle Street in Portsmouth. (continued below)
A unique feature of the tour will be the presence of local musicians performing in several of the gardens.  Listening to the music while rambling through the gardens is self-indulgence of the best kind.
On site at South Church this year will be author Susan Reed, Landscape Architect, who will discuss her recently published book Energy-Wise Landscape Design: A New Approach For Your Home And Garden.  This book is the first of its kind, helping homeowners with garden design in addition to lowering energy costs and explaining the need for sustainability in our areas outdoors.
The gardens on tour are a study in contrasts, from expansive, professionally landscaped gardens to lovingly tended works in progress.  Tickets for the Pocket Garden Tour are $ 17 in advance and $ 20 on the days of the tour. They are available at South Church, 292 State Street in Portsmouth, online at the official web site (CLICK HERE) and at 16 locations throughout the Seacoast.
