The Art of Food
Art_of_FoodEXHIBIT RUNS THRU SEPT 1, 2010

As fresh produce hits peak production in New Hampshire this summer, it will also be in abundance on the walls of the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire’s Gallery 6. A new art exhibit, FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD, will feature images of healthy fruits and vegetables created by more than a dozen acclaimed NH artists. (Continued below)

"We all know that eating habits are often formed in childhood and can affect children’s health throughout their entire lives," explained Sue Kaufmann, Director of Exhibits at the Children’s Museum of NH. "One problem that parents face daily is getting their kids to make smart food choices. This is why we are especially excited to be showcasing fruits and vegetables depicted in attractive and irresistible ways."

This summer, Gallery 6 is partnering with noted dietician Eileen Behan of Rye, NH, in For the Love of Food, an art exhibit featuring nutritious foods – especially fruits and vegetables – depicted in attractive and irresistible ways. Throughout the exhibit, Eileen has added nutritional information, recipes, and helpful suggestions designed to support caregivers as they encourage kids to make wise food choices.

More than a dozen New Hampshire artists have been invited to contribute to this visual smorgasbord with artwork – in mediums such as painting, photography, and illustration – that celebrates food. These colorful, lively, and fun interpretations of fruits and vegetables – from apples to zucchini – offer a true feast for the eyes. Featured artists include: Steve Bowersock, Denise Brown, Cory Caputo, Gina Carey, Eve Corey, Tess Feltes, Suzie Goodwin, Gretchen Hatfield, Susan Kaufmann, Shaula Levenson, Fleur Palau, Shawn Pelech, Sue Pretty, Eva Powers, Susan Savory, Wendy Turner, Jan Waldron, Teri Weidner and Peter Welch

In conjunction with the art exhibit, the Children’s Museum will host an interactive workshop focused on healthy eating on Tuesday, July 13 at 11 am. Titled "Exploring Fruits and Vegetables," this one-hour workshop for families with children of all ages will be led by Eileen Behan, RD. Participants will explore the amazing world of fresh foods, with an opportunity to taste, touch, smell, and look inside different fruits and vegetables generously provided by Fiddlehead Farms Marketplace. There will also be a fun, food-related scavenger hunt. This family workshop is included with regular admission and advance registration is not required.

The For The Love of Food exhibit in Gallery 6 can be viewed during regular business hours at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire in Dover: Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm and Sunday noon – 5 pm (also open Mondays 10-5 during July & August). No admission fee is required to view the gallery only. Regular admission applies for families who wish to explore the rest of the museum.
