The Gundalow Company will host  Gundalow Gatherings on April 9, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. This one night event features ten programs in ten homes in ten Seacoast towns.  Friends of the non-profit Gundalow Company will host attendees in their homes for an evening of food, drink and maritime conversation with guest experts. (Read more below)

The cost is $50.00 per person and proceeds will benefit 2011 education programs. Space is still available and interested guests must RSVP and pay by March 31, 2011 online at the Web site

Program highlights from the evening include “Furs & Frontiers in the Far North,” “Building the New Gundalow” “The Rise & Fall of Halibut,” “A Modern Adventure around Cape Horn,” and “Thirty Years on Great Bay.” The roster of guest experts includes Ned Cabot, Arnet Taylor, Jr., Captain Paul Pelletier, Ray Grizzle, UNH Jackson Lab, and boat builder Paul Rollins. See more details online.

“The Gundalow Company is so fortunate to have so many generous Seacoast friends who are willing to open their homes and host a Gundalow Gathering this spring,” remarked Molly Bolster, Executive Director for the Gundalow Company. “The mix of programs, experts and locations really represents the scope our work in the Maritime Region. This event is a chance to learn a little more about your particular area of interest—whether it’s the working waterfront, bringing oysters back to Great Bay, or boatbuilding—while supporting our education programs.”

About the Gundalow Company

Gundalows were once the primary mode of transporting cargo to tidewater towns in the Piscataqua region. Now the replica gundalow Captain Edward H. Adams is used as a dockside platform for maritime heritage and environmental education in those same towns. This replica of an 1880’s era gundalow was built in 1982 and is now operated by the nonprofit Gundalow Company. All programs are designed to heighten awareness of our maritime heritage, contemporary water quality issues, and stewardship responsibilities. For information on the Gundalow Company’s ‘Celebrating Our Rivers’ events, education programs, volunteering, or sponsorship opportunities may visit the Web site.
