October 28 - 30 • Sean Christopher Lewis • JUST KIDS

Spending lonely weeks in Kansas teaching a group of mentally-troubled kids, Sean Lewis is pulled into a sudden rush of discoveries about his own unsettling past. Sean’s long-estranged biological father forces him to endure the strife of their troubled relationship one more time, before leaving Sean to pick up the pieces and figure out what it all means.  Sean Christopher Lewis’ plays have won the Kennedy Center’s Rosa Parks Award, and the National New Play Network’s Smith Prize. Lewis is also a noted actor, working Off Broadway at the Pearl Theatre, in NYC at LaMama, Etc, in television and feature films from Comedy Central’s Upright Citizen’s Brigade to God’s Country.

December 9 - 11 • Pontine Theatre • A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Co-Artistic Directors, Greg Gathers and Marguerite Mathews, bring a Pontine touch to Dickens' classic holiday tale, with a paper theater version of “A Christmas Carol,” inspired by the Victorian Toy Theatre. Also on the program is “Jimmy Scarecrow’s Christmas,” a delightfully zany story by New England author, Mary Wilkins Freeman, and holiday music by the Seacoast’s own Barbara London. Plus, of course, cookies and eggnog for all!

January 27 - 29 • NACL • THE LITTLE FARM SHOW

Where does your food come from?  NACL Theatre explores this question with an all-ages musical extravaganza about FARMING, FOOD and the ENVIRONMENT. From the inception of the solar system, to sunset on Millicent’s farm, the Magnificent MacDonald Twins give audiences a whirlwind tour of “The Greatest Show on Dirt!” Next “The Little Farm Show,” created and performed by Tannis Kowalchuk and Brett Keyser, kicks up some dirt with live music, and high-spirited performances. Steeped in history, philosophy, and a wheel barrow-full of information, the play navigates through the history of agriculture from 10,000 BC to today, exploring sustainability, local food systems, and organic farming. .

March 9 - 11 • Mud Time Theatre • THE NINE QUESTIONS & MILDRED TAKEN CRAZY

“The Nine Questions” is a venerable legend of Windham County VT. Mud Time Theater’s account is based on the article “Lost,” published in the Bellows Falls Times on 30 December 1864. “Mildred Taken Crazy” is drawn from a famous Vermont crime which became a national sensation. What makes the case so compelling is the violence of the passion, the human complexity involved, and the questions the story raises about who we are and how much we can change, questions that only get deeper the longer we live. Steve Friedman and Denny Partridge have collaborated on some sixty productions since 1970, beginning as members of the San Francisco Mime Troupe. They live in Bellows Falls Vermont. Mud Time, between March and May, is messy and difficult and full of hope, like the best art.

April 27 - 29 • Pontine Theatre • CAP’N SIMEON’S STORE & other stories

Drawing on the ‘local color’ tales of writer, painter, carver and boat builder, George Savary Wasson, Pontine Theatre brings the salt-crusted denizens of Killick Cove to the stage. Wasson’s stories, published as “Cap’n Simeon’s Store,” “Home From Sea,” and “The Green Shay,” are based upon his neighbors and acquaintances in Kittery Point, ME, circa 1900. These stories of the elder generation of deep-sea fishermen are told in their own dialect; sitting around the hospitable fire of Cap’n Simeon’s Store, they spin their yarns of shipwrecks and storms, ghosts and witchcraft, the insufferable summer “rusticators,” and life and death on the great deep.
