The program kicks off "The Many Faces of George Washington" Exhibit Lecture Series and will now be held on Sunday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Portsmouth. The cost to attend is $10 per person.

The second program in the three part Sunday series will be "Spies in Time: George Washington's Secret Communications" presented by Douglas Wheeler on Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Portsmouth Athenaeum. This program is sponsored by the NH Humanities Council and is free and open to the public. The final program in the series, "Tobias Lear and the Barbary Wars," will be presented by Harrie Slootbeek at the Governor John Langdon House on Sunday, April 7 at 2 p.m. The cost to attend is $10 per person.

"The Many Faces of George Washington" is a national traveling panel exhibition that examines the multi-dimensional, real-life man behind the myth. The Wentworth Lear Historic Houses is pleased to be the only northern New England organization to host this special exhibition in 2013. The Exhibit Lecture Series is an opportunity to learn more about George Washington in advance of the arrival of this special exhibit.

"Tobias Lear, as George Washington's personal secretary, bore witness to the many facets of the President's leadership and life," said Stacey Fraser deHaan, House Manager of the Wentworth Lear Historic Houses. "This panel exhibition and the advanced lecture series provide a unique opportunity to both learn more about George Washington and explore Portsmouth's connection to this transformative national figure."

The exhibition will be open to the public from April 25-June 1. Admission will be $12 for adults, $10 for Seniors, and $5 for children (children under 5 are free) and includes access to both historic houses and the warehouse. Groups interested in scheduling a visit should contact Stacey Fraser deHaan at 436-4406.

"The Many Faces of George Washington" exhibition was produced by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association in conjunction with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and was made possible by a generous grant from the F.M. Kirby Foundation. Through dazzling color graphics of paintings, photographs, and iconic objects from the Mount Vernon collections, this exhibition presents the many different facets of Washington's leadership.
