Local Roots Food Fair for Kids

Foodworks_logoThe Children’s Museum of NH, in partnership with Hannaford Supermarkets, will present Local Roots Food Fair onWednesday, July 20 from 1 – 4 pm at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire in Dover. This indoor event is free with paid admission and will include free food samples, interactive games and take-home items. (Continued below)

This event celebrates the abundance of locally-produced food and products in New Hampshire. Visitors will enjoy an afternoon of fresh food samples featured in Hannaford’s “Close To Home” program, plus interactive games and activities. Volunteers from Seacoast Eat Local and the Seacoast Grower’s Association will be on hand with information about local sources for delicious and nutritious farm foods.

Some of the local producers represented at the food fair will include Brookdale Fruit Farm, McLures Honey, White Mountain Kettlecorn, Abigail's Bakery (whole grain baked goods), Chamberlain Springs Water, Echo Farm Puddings, and Putnam Farm’s maple products.  Representatives from Stonyfield Farm will also be on hand as part of their summer Milk + Cookies Tour, with samples of their Organic Omega-3 milk and Late July organic cookies.

“We are looking forward to presenting this seasonal food fair for families from New Hampshire and beyond who visit our museum,” said Jane Bard, Director of Education at the Children’s Museum of NH. “Kids love learning through active participation, so this event gives children a chance to try new foods, ask questions and learn how fresh foods help their bodies grow. There will also be plenty of information and coupons for adults to take home.”

Throughout 2011, the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire is partnering with Hannaford on a series of six FoodWorks programs and events that promote good nutrition.   Upcoming events will share more information about healthy food choices for children and their families, including:

-       Trying New Foods on Saturday, September 17 from 10:30 am – noon

-       The Challenges of Food Allergies on Sunday, November 13 from 11 am – 2 pm
