Just My Imagination Exhibit

“Just my Imagination” the latest exhibit at The Gallery at 100 Market, takes a peek into some pleasant, wild, fantastical, visionary, curious, thoughtful and raging minds. “This is an interesting ride,” says Michael Simchik, gallery patron. “The themed exhibit is hopefully an inspiration to an artist, perhaps a challenge. it seems to have hit a mark. The response is truly exciting.” (Continued below)

The show includes the work of 21 artists, from Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. Artists are Mary Blum, Mark Bolton, Heather Bourbeau, Steve Bowersock, Charles Farrell, Tess Feltes, Gene Galipeau, Ann R. Howland, Ann Jones, Magi Leland. Jeannie Griffin-Peterk, David McPhail, Peg Murray, Bill Oakes, Susan Schwake, JoAnn Portalupi, Jan Waldron, Darlene Furbush Oullette, Sandra Samaha, Jane Sydney and David S. O’Donnell.

100_birdofpreyWorks include oils, acrylic, pencils, collage, mache, sculpture and photography.

“It’s a very broad show, whether you’re talking image or medium,” says Jean Hurlbut, McLane Law Firm’s gallery liaison, a show supporter. “Given its variety, and that it’s laid out on four floors, this is not a show that can be “taken-in” in a single stroll-through. There’s just so much going on.”

Genres include representational, surreal, abstract, impressionist, and illustration.

Erin M. Duquette is “Imagination’s” featured artist. The Kittery, Maine, painter’s work naturally taps the theme vein, says curator Jeanne’ McCartin. Duquette’s canvases are always filled with graceful, fantastical beings, animal and human; their narrative ranging from humorous to chilling.

Best know as a fine artist, Duquette is also a muralist, illustrator and commercial designer, who has exhibited throughout the Northeast and in California.

“It’s really a rare opportunity to be able to show so many paintings in one location so near to home,” says Duquette. “I have to thank Michael Simchik for supporting this gallery, and making it possible for this to happen.”

Simchik sponsors the juried and curated Gallery at 100 for the purpose of advancing the individual artist’s business-of-one. There is no fee or percent taken. Buyers are directed to the artists or representing galleries. Other galleries are encouraged to connect with exhibitors.

“This is a great show to get lost in,” says Simchik. “Every floor represents multiple worlds, a visual peek into another’s imagination.”
