HMS Bounty Stops by Star Island

HMS_BountyHISTORY NEWS

On the afternoon of August 28, 2012 the HMS Bounty, famous for its appearance in the film the Mutiny on the Bounty sailed into Gosport Harbor and docked at the Star Island pier. Guests were allowed onboard the boat, a large-sized replica used in the 1962 Marlon Brando film, while the boat’s crew was able to test their sea legs on firm ground between mainland stops. The Bounty then anchored off of Appledore Island to allow for the M/V Thomas Laighton to ferry guests to Star Island during their normally scheduled Wednesday visits, the Bounty planned to dock at Star Island again in the evening for this historic visit.  (Continued below)

The Bounty crew is volunteering on Star Island by assisting with painting, carpentry, and other maintenance activities. Star Island is pleased to welcome the boat, its crew, and is grateful for the volunteer work.

The HMS Bounty is a oversizedi-replica of the original Bounty which was involved in a mutiny that took place near Tahiti in 1789. The replica has appeared in movies and operates tours in ports worldwide.

The Star Island Corporation was established as a nonprofit corporation in 1916 to hold and administer Star Island and its historic properties for religious, educational, and kindred purposes. The Laighton family owned and operated hotels on the Isles of Shoals that attracted some of the most prominent artists and writers of their day. Some of the cottages on Star Island date back to the 1700s. For more information visit StarIsland.org.
