WHAT'S NEW?

Dear SeacoastNH.com

A few years ago, I read an article about hiking the NH coast in a magazine.  I wasn't able to keep the article or make a copy.  It listed spots to stop/eat meals and places to stay -- suggested a daily list of how far to walk on a long weekend trip.  I'd love to do the hike, and have talked it up with my friends.  Can you help with info?  I haven't been able to find the article. -- Patty Yewcic  (See response below)

SEACOASTNH REPLY: Hmmm, don’t know that specific article. The NH coast is only 17 miles long as the crow flies and flat as a pancake, so it would not be a grueling trip. I wonder if you tapped into the hiking section I used to post on my Web site. I haven’t posted any recently and some of the data may be out of date, but looking back into the “Scenic Walks” section, it appears that I posted about 45 locations in the region. I’d call most of these “walks” rather an “hikes” if you are a serious hiker, which I’m not. It’s still probably the best aggregated collection of online info with photos to give you an idea what the places look like, but always best to check in for updates before launching out on a trip. As far as recent books go I can suggest Nature Walks along the Seacoast: Southern Maine, New Hampshire, and Northern Massachusetts gby Steve Sherman and Julia Older. Another new and updated book that I have in hand is Bicycling New Hampshire’s Seacoast by Linda Chestney. Other books include: RMC Best Hikes in NH White Mountains, or Best Hikes with Dogs: NH and VT, though not the seacoast. And there is a series of books called 50 HIKES that has a lot of New England spots. All are on Amazon.com.
