George Washington Turns 280 in Exeter Saturday

GwashingtonTOP EVENTS

Did George Washington really chop down a cherry tree?  (nope) Could he throw a silver dollar across the Potomac? (nope) Visitors to the American Independence Museum’s Folsom Tavern can ask President Washington about these legends when he visits on Saturday, February 18 to celebrate his 280th birthday. (Continued below)

“We’re inviting families to come to Folsom Tavern anytime from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to enjoy music, dancing, crafts, games and birthday cake of course,” said Stephanie Hewson, the museum’s Programs Coordinator.  “Our special guest, Mr. President, will visit us between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. so there will be plenty of time to ask him questions, pose for photos, and at noon everyone can help him blow out the candles on his cake!  I don’t think we’ll have 280 candles, but we’ll definitely have enough so President Washington and his guests can make wishes!”

To assist with party preparations, reservations are requested and may be made online at the Calendar page of www.independencemuseum.org or by calling 603-772-2622.  Folsom Tavern is located at 164 Water Street in historic downtown Exeter, New Hampshire.
