Exhibit runs through August 31, 2012 at the Discover Portsmouth Center on 10 Middle Street, Portsmouth, NH. Admission is free to the public and the visitor center (in the old Portsmouth Library building) is open to the public from 10am to 5pm daily. This exhibit accompanies "Under the Isles of Shoals" and the John Stobart exhibits running concurrently  (see more details below)

Isles of Shoals Oil Paintings by Christopher Volpe

PORTSMOUTH, NH- New oil paintings by Christopher Volpe featuring the oceanic geography of the Isles of Shoals will be exhibited during the month of August at the Discover Portsmouth Center and sponsored by the Banks Gallery.

Painted largely on location, Volpe's dynamic paintings capture the brilliance and desolation of the islands' stark, light-drenched coasts and weathered landmarks with minimalistic design, characteristic color, and expressive brush and knife work.

This is the third installment in the Art of the Isles of Shoals series at Discover Portsmouth.  Christopher Volpe’s paintings will hang with the seascapes of maritime painter John Stobart and complement the exhibit Under the Isles of Shoals that features artifacts recently unearthed on Smuttynose Island that is now running in the lower gallery.

A portion of all painting sales will benefit the Portsmouth Historical Society.
