Watch for Ida Moose Blogs at Islandport Press

Com median Susan Poulin as Ida LeClairSEACOAST BOOKS

Ida LeClair will soon share the goings-on at The Busy Bee, The Brew Ha Ha and other Mahoosuc Mills hot spots, as well as keep readers up to speed about the ongoing adventures of “The Women who Run with the Moose,” through Islandport Press Web sites.  Maine-based performer and writer Susan Poulin, the creative force behind the popular stage personality Ida LeClair, has reached an agreement with Islandport to begin distributing her weekly humor blog and podcast beginning August 20. “I’m thrilled to bring ‘Just Ask Ida’ to the Islandport web sites,” said Susan Poulin. “After working closely with them on my first book, I know Ida and I are in good hands. It’s a great fit, and I value the opportunity to continue to share Ida’s commonsensical approach to life with her fans each week.”

For the past three years, the “Just Ask Ida” blog has been a popular weekly feature on a web site operated by Down East Enterprises. However, the Camden-based company recently announced that it would end all blogs on its site effective immediately.

The new blog agreement further strengthens the developing relationship between Poulin and Islandport Press. Islandport is publishing Poulin’s first book, a humorous self-help guide called “Finding Your Inner Moose: Ida LeClair’s Guide to Livin’ the Good Life,” this fall and will lend marketing support to promote Poulin’s shows and events, as well as social media sites such as Facebook, that feature Ida.

The Ida LeClair blog and book also increase Islandport’s presence as a producer and distributor of regional humor. Islandport currently publishes a regular blog by Rebecca Rule, a popular New Hampshire storyteller and performer, and has published three books by Maine storyteller and radio personality John McDonald. Other projects, both print and web-based, are also in development.

“We are delighted to have Susan join Becky on our sites,” said Dean L. Lunt, Islandport’s Editor-in-Chief and Publisher. “Both are extremely talented women who bring fresh voices to what has historically been a male-dominated genre. And they both greatly complement our male humorists including John McDonald and Leon Thompson.”

Poulin, once selected by Portland Magazine as one of the “Ten Most Intriguing People In Maine,” created Ida LeClair in 1997. Ida lives in a double-wide mobile home in the fictional Western Maine town of Mahoosuc Mills with her husband Charlie and beloved dog Scamp. The Ida shows and stories revolve around Ida’s daily life in the small town. Poulin has produced five stage shows featuring Ida, including “Ida: Woman Who Runs with the Moose,” “Ida’s Havin’ a Yard Sale,” “A Very Ida Christmas,” and “The Moose in Me, the Moose in You.”  Her latest is “I Married an Alien,” which premieres on August 23 in Portsmouth, NH.

Yarmouth-based Islandport Press is a dynamic, award-winning publisher dedicated to stories rooted in the essence and sensibilities of New England. For more information, please visit www.islandportpress.com
