Portsmouth North End
Under Urban Renewal

The following pictures show North End buildings targeted for destruction during the late 1960s and early 1970s. All 200 homes, 400 buildings in all, were identified as "substandard" by the Portsmouth Housing Authority and all but a few demolished by urban renewal. Today, a large portion of the area still remains vacant. Photos from PHA on file in Portsmouth Public Library.
