Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #193
In 1973 the home of Revolutionary War patriot Joshua Wentworth was moved to Strawbery Banke by barge. The 1770 structure was a gift of Harry Winebaum, a newspaper distributor. Winebaum had begun his career in Portsmouth as a "newsie" while living in the Jewish community at Puddle Dock. He watched nervously from shore as a tug nudged the barge under the upraised section of Memorial Bridge.
