Two authors whose work focuses on the founding our nation will kick off the American Independence Museum’s “Tavern Talk” series at Exeter’s historic Folsom Tavern in June. Topics on June 6 and June 20 include the rocky start to the American nation and a humorous look at the US Constitution. (Continued below)

The series begins on Wednesday, June 6th with author Jay Wexler taking an entertaining look at ten of the clauses of the United States Constitution.  Wexler, a professor at Boston University’s School of Law, is the author of “The Odd Clauses”.  A review of the book by the New York Criminal Defense Blog “Simple Justice” reports that “The Odd Clauses is just an enormously fun read and, in the process, exceptionally informative.  The problem is that you're having such a good time reading Jay's twisted humor that you don't realize you're learning.”

American_history_booksOn June 20, Northeastern University Professor William M. Fowler, author of “An American Crisis”, will relate the dramatic story of the turbulent two years following the surrender at Yorktown when our new nation almost collapsed.  Well-known historian David McCullough praised the book.

“’Huzzah!’ for William Fowler, McCullough wrote. “His superb American Crisis brings to life, with great clarity and understanding, one of the least-known, most important chapters in the long struggle for independence, and leaves no doubt of how much, once again, was owed to George Washington for how things turned out.”

Both events will take place in the Assembly Room of the Folsom Tavern at 164 Water Street in Exeter at 7 p.m.; reservations are not required and the admission fees are $5 for adults and $3 for museum members and students.  The authors will have their works available following the events, thanks to Water Street Bookstore, and copies may be purchased and signed by the authors.  Certificates of Attendance will be available for students and teachers following the programs.
