We checked all around and could find no
detailed list of the many places to cross country ski in the Seacoast
Region. Here’s what we discovered after a day of telephone calling.
Most locations are summer trails on state and town park areas, but
there are some real scenic surprises. Most trails are not groomed, but

NH
Wonderfully scenic area on Great Bay
near Jackson Labs between Newmarket and Durham centers.

Applecrest Farm, North Hampton, NH One of only
on-site rental areas we could find in the region. Rentals
available. Six
miles of trails. Day fee $7 adults,$2 kids 11 and under. Rentals additional.

Bellamy Park, Dover, NH Bellamy Road. Just a big open area good

Pine Road, next to Seacoast Lumber, Brentwood, NH Miles of trails
through what was a gravel pit. State has built ponds and trails

College Woods, Durham, NH A
favorite place for University of NH students and Durhamites alike off
Main Street near the Field House

Exeter Academy Woods, Exeter, NH Drinkwater Road, Blue and red
trails. Open to public and owned by Phillips Exeter Academy

Fort Foster, Kittery, ME Popular with Kittery residents around old fort
area.Pochantas Road, Kittery Pointm, run by Parks and Rec (207) 439-3800

The ones we called said they
were private and did not allow xc, though a lot of people we know travel
through their local country clubs in winter.

Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge,
Newington, NH Pease
Tradeport. Main Gate. Take a right for many miles following signs.
Peverly Point Trail and Ferry Way Trail Short trails in the woods along
the bay with beaver pond. (603) 431-7511

Kingman Farms, Durham, NH We found this listed as mountain bike
trail, but we’re told it’s great for xc in winter. UNH Cooperative

Laudholm Farms, Wells, ME A truly wonderful and little known salt
water farm along the sea with trails, connected to the Wells National
Estuarine Research Reserve area owned by Laudholm Trust. Off US Route 1.
(207) 646-1555.

Mt. Agamenticus State Park, York, ME For the snowshoers and
experts mostly. Highest peak in the Seacoast managed by the Town of York
with trails.

The Oaklands, Exeter, NH Henderson-Swayzee area, between Exeter
and Newfields, owned by the towns, but also allows snowmobiles, so not
as good for xc.

Odiorne Point State Park, Rye, NH The most popular spot for
Seacoast area residents with trails along the Atlantic Ocean. Historic
sites.

Onway Lake Family Resort, Raymond, NH Miles of cross country ski
trails at the only local ski resort we could find. Member of XC ski
Areas Assoc. Day rate $9 age 7-64. Senior discounts, kids free. Friday -

the flat area off Main Street. Scenic view of the town across the
river.

Urban Forestry Center, Portsmouth, NH 5 ½ miles, arboretum,
gardens, salt. Sunup to sundown. NO motorized vehicles. Run by NH Div of
Forest and Land at 45 Elwyn Rd, (603) 431-6774

Vaughan Woods, South Berwick, ME Wonderful but very hilly trail
along the Salmon Falls River

Wagon Hill Farm, Durham, NH The famous wagon on the hill off Route
4 and popular hiking and summer picnicking area managed by the Town of
