Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse Goes Postal

towncrierlogoHEAR YE!  HEAR YE!

How cool is this? "Lighthouse Guy" Jeremy D'Entremont reports that our signature lighthouse is subject to a new Stamp Act, only this time we won't be protesting.  Here's the note from Jeremy: Exciting news! The U.S. Post Office will soon be releasing a new series of five New England Coastal Lighthouse stamps. The set features five lighthouses: Portland Head, Maine; Point Judith, Rhode Island; New London Harbor, Connecticut; Boston Harbor, Massachusetts; and ... (drumroll, please) ... Portsmouth Harbor, New Hampshire! (Continued below)

These five lighthouses are among the oldest in the U.S., and each is on the National Register of Historic Places. Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, of course, was the first north of Boston in the American colonies when it was established in 1771.

Paine and Greg Breeding served as art directors. The New England Coastal Lighthouses stamps are being issued as ForeverĀ® stamps. Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate. We don't have a release date yet, but July looks likely. We'll keep you posted! (No pun intended.)
