Step back in time as the the Brinkler Trio; pianist Ken Piotrowski, cellist Gary Hodges and violinist Bozena O’Brien presents rare classical piano trios, forgotten treasures, written between the 1830s to the 1890s on Saturday, June 11 at 8:00 PM. (Continued below)
This enchanting music by composers such as Fidelis Zitterbart, Charles C. Perkins and Lucina Jewell was originally written for a small instrumental ensemble, which played in reception halls, courts, palace chambers and, later, in the intimate setting of the parlor room.
These pieces were introduced to larger audiences with the rise of the concert hall in the nineteenth century. With near-perfect acoustics and venerable Chickering grand piano, the century-old Rochester Opera House evokes the intimate setting of a concert hall performance in the 1890s.
The Brinkler Trio is named in honor of gifted composer and organist Alfred Brinkler (1890-1972), who was the municipal pipe organist (1935-1952) for the famous Kotzschamer Pipe Organ located in the Portland City Hall Auditorium.
Kenneth Piotrowski began piano study at age five and later added theory, composition & glass harmonica. Ken has played in concert halls throughout North and South America, Europe and
Gary Hodges is principal cellist in the New Hampshire Philharmonic and Director of the Phillips Exeter Summer School Orchestra.
