Thursday, November 20
Assistant Librarian Carolyn Marvin will present “Hanging Ruth Blay,” an
illustrated talk on Carolyn’s extensive research on the trial and execution
of Ruth Blay in Portsmouth in 1768. Known mostly from maudlin Victorian
poetry, the sad case of Ruth Blay is much more complex and interesting than
a few lines of verse might imply. Carolyn will reveal the story behind the
story in this revealing presentation. 7 p.m. in the Research Library. Please
