The Seacoast social event of the spring season is slated for Friday, May 9, hosted by the Jumbo Circus Peanuts of Portsmouth. This annual dance party, dubbed the "Spring Schwing," now in its thirteenth year, is happening at the band's World Headquarters, otherwise known as the Portsmouth VFW Ballroom, Deer Street, downtown Portsmouth.
Admission is a measly $5. A value-priced cocktail buffet will be served beginning at 8 p.m. The Portsmouth VFW Ballroom offers free parking onsite, sparkling clean rest rooms, a parquet dance floor and is entirely smoke-free. Ringside VIP seating is available, first-come-first seated. No advance sale.
The Jumbo Circus Peanuts' repertoire of swing, funk, soul, pop and German beer hall songs will be prominently featured. A spring fashion show produced by the band's Ladies Auxiliary, along with door prizes and a Funky Chicken dance contest are also planned. Party-goers are urged to wear their spring finest and, optionally, to bring a small gift for the band.
