PORTSMOUTH – Enjoy a Mother’s Day tea with brave Captain Jones, 18th Century Style at the John Paul Jones House 43 Middle St Portsmouth from 2-4 pm on May 11, 2008.
Price: $15 ($12 members of Portsmouth Historical Society)
Plan your Mother’s Day to include a visit to the John Paul Jones House, Portsmouth NH. We will be serving tea as it might have been enjoyed by John Paul Jones himself, the most famous tenant of our museum house.
Begin with a tour of the John Paul Jones House where we will feature our fine collection of early tea wares. Teas, which are being donated by Maine-ly New Hampshire, include varieties of green and black tea enjoyed by early Portsmouth residents. Tea cakes made using 18th century recipes further enhance the trip back to the eighteenth century. We will also have more modern refreshments for comparison.
Sandra Rux, Museum Manager, will discuss the social importance of tea drinking in colonial America and the impact of the tax on tea on the tea drinking habits of Americans.
