"Submerged" director James Keach
with veteran actor Sam Neill as Sweded Momsen, the inventor of the
diving bell that saved 33 Squalus crewmen off the Isles of Shoals in
May 1938.
 A painted ship upon a painted ocean. The
crew of the film "Submereged" pause between takes. No that is not
Portsmouth, NH in the background, but Malta where the film was
shot.
 The movie version of the
Squalus, borrowed from the film "U-591" sets out for a test dive in
a large pool of water on a studio lot.
 Making waves. Mediterranean Studios in Malta
has three large tanks used in the filming of Hollywood and TV films,
TV commercials, even rock videos. The wave control and proximity to
the ocean allows for seafaring films without the dangers of the
briney deep.
