Old Ironsides defeats HMS guerreMARK YOUR CALENDAR

On Saturday August 18, 2012 the on-land submarine in Portsmouth will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the battle that made “Old Ironsides” famous. Two centuries ago the USS Constitution defeated HMS Guerrere, preserving it as an American icon. The rest of the War of 1812 didn’t go so well, but what the heck – it’s still a good time to celebrate the summer. See below for the scheduled events including a chat about the Forgotten War by your favorite online history editor -- plus sub sandwiches and deep discounts.
