SOUTH MEETS NORTH (BEACH, THAT IS)
My wife and I will be visiting North Hampton Beach, NH for a week or two beginning about April Would appreciate it if you could provide a map and information on lodging and rates.
Rod from Elmore, Alabama rmanning@prodigy.net
EDITOR'S REPLY: We have the best on-line listing of places to stay under LODGING and our own Hampton map in TOURING. But you want the Hampton Chamber of Commerce at 603-926-8717. There are currently two Hampton Beach sites with further info, and we will be adding our own Hampton Beach page with summer updates in about a week. Their newest summer guide is currently at the printers. http://www.hamptonbeach.org http://www.hamptonbeach.com/

ROCKY MOUNTAIN, HI!
Hi! Thanks for the good reading material. Most of my ancesters settled in the Portsmouth-Kittery area; it's a pleasure to read material of how it was back then. One family, imparticular, were the Rands; I have two lines to this family who was massacred by Indians in 1691, on Sandy Beach, New Hampshire. Will I see any history of this family on your website, in the future? Thanks, again; this is a website I will frequently visit.
Gayle from Denver, Colorado kevsis@aol.com
EDITOR'S REPLY: Forwarded your letter to the people working on the new Rye Museum. Hope to tell both sides of the Indian struggles over time. It is a ponderous task, but Just ordered a book on King Phillips War which we hope will flesh out some confusing details. Will look for Rands along the way.

ON THE GENESIS OF ALL LIFE
Re: Prehistoric Era. The Bible saids God created the earth, so how were there prehistoric people before the earth was created?
Marcella G
EDITOR'S REPLY: Since this message was sent four times, we assume this is an urgent request. We can't speak for the rest of the planet, but have it on good account that Seacoast NH was actually a prototype for life everywhere else. The oceans and beaches were considered an early success, but the concept of a city council form of government was tossed out in a later blueprint for Creation. For more info, see the video "From Here to Eternity." The "Here" refers , of course, to Seacoast, NH. We'll pick up the discussion later.

SHE'S GOT HER OWN PAGE NOW
Hi guys! Thanks for keeping the page on my quilts up. I've now got a web site of my own and was wondering if you would add a link to it. I'll be linking to you from it, of course.
Susan Carlson fabimage@nh.ultranet.com http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~fabimage

COMING TO NH
I'm looking for information on vacationing in New Hampshire this summer. We are interested in the beach and have two children (ages 5 and 7).Thank you.
Heidi from Valley Cottage, New York WDPH@aol.com

AEROSPACE MEETS CYBERSPACE
I'm a Lieutenant Colonel in the active duty Air Force. I'm also the Professor of Aerospace Studies (Air Force ROTC
commander) at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre. I'm
thoroughly impressed with the SeacoastNH web site. Although I haven't ventured too far off the historical sections, I have found the information very valuable and easy to
access.

LOST IN GOSPORT
I am trying to find out were my great-great-great-great grandfather came from. He was born on Dean Island, Gosport New Brunswick in 1816 -- John Thomas Welsh a seafaring man. Cannot trace this area in Canada.Could it be that the bounderies changed and that it could be now Gosport NH?
Heather M hemitch@ibm.net
EDITOR'S REPLY: Unlikely since these borders have been here long before your ancestor. Gosport was an island town here. Try contacting the Isles of Shoals Historical & Research Assoc (ISJRA) 174 Wednesday Hill Rd, Lee,NH 03824. Your answer probably lies in Canada. Our Gosport photo site is accessible from the ISLES OF SHOAL section in History Themes.

WANTS NH MARINE JOB
I am in the process of finishing a Masters degree in Marine Ecology. I am currently searching for jobs as a marine educator/researcher and have always been impressed with the
science centers in NH especially those in Seabrook and at Odiorne Point. I am not sure who to contact about job possibilites or where to send a resume.
Erika at Univ of Connecticut ELM95001@uconnvm.uconn.edu.
EDITOR'S REPLY: We get a lot of letters from people seeking jobs. Too bad someone can't set up a local "Employment" web site. The phone numbers for this inquiry above are on our "Kids & Family" page below. http://www.seacoastnh.com/101nh/kids.html

SPIKING THE USS NEW HAMPSHIRE
We have several copper spikes with US stamped on them. They were supposedly made by Paul Revere and were used on the USS NH. They were recovered by skin divers off either MA or NH from the wreck described as the USS NH. Do you have
any information on these spikes? Thanks in advance.
RF Spayne
According to our link below the USS New Hampshire (see photo and poem) was built in 1819 and launched in 1864, so we're guessing Paul Rever is out of the question. We can lead you to more info on the ship in books by the Portsmouth Marine Society. The ship did sink in Mass Bay in 1921 and much is known of its history, so your spikes could be authentic. http://www.seacoastnh.com/tji/ussnh.html http://www.seacoastnh.com/tjinov97.html#ussnh

MORE NATIVE AMERICANS
I stumbled onto this web site while doing research for a paper that I was writing. I was very disapointed that there is no referance to the Native Americans who shared the Seacoast NH hills, valleys and rivers. Is there a reason?
Shirley Sunshin660@aol.com
EDITOR'S REPLY: Actually, we have been contacted by a number of Native Americans with thanks for our "sensitive" approach to promoting Native American history. Have you seen our Prehistory, Contact and Colonial sections? We have a tribute to Passaconaway in progress. But certainly, we could and will do much much more. As a region and as a country, we have a giant wound to heal. We will keep trying.

LIKES WHITTIER, THAXTER, LONGFELLOW ARTICLES
I am sending this message to you because I wanted to let you know I enjoyed this site very much. I am a published poet just starting out, and like most other poets I have a shy nature, but need to express myself through poetry. It is the only way I can say things without being interupted.
Lorraine lorrab@worldpath.net

the information on purchasing this?
William C. michelecrandall@sprintmail.com

WHY NOT KINGSTON?
I just this minute saw your site for the first time; the result of an article in the Carriage Town News. I find your site pleasing and it interests me. I will certainly use it
when planning activities for visitors. In addition, I will turn them to it before they come. I am the Chairperson of the Kingston Historic District Commission. We are one of only five official (defined by law under the NH
RSAs) historic districts in the region. By nearly all definitions we are included within the Seacoast region, but not by your site. Would you entertain adding Kingston?
Bob in Kingston, NH bob.johnston@computer-security.com
EDITOR'S REPLY: By the power vested in us by the spirit of Revolutionary War leader Josiah Bartlett, we now declare Kingston to be officially part of the cyber Seacoast. We've already started work on a related project due for release this fall. Welcome aboard.

"WILD" MANCHESTER LINK
My web site, "The Manchester, NH Urban Open Space Website" may be of interest to those in the seacoast region. I have tried to orient visitors to the site with a map of the 7 regions of New Hampshire.
Pat Mattson pmattson@env.mv.com http://www.mv.com/ipusers/env/
EDITOR's REPLY: There are six OTHER regions in NH? We never heard that. Thanks Pat. I think our large outside-NH readership will especially be interested in your map that shows just how tiny NH is and how REALLY tiny the Seacoast region appears (colored blue). Readers scroll down. http://www.mv.com/ipusers/env/citystate.html

Market Square Day race in 1996. Please tell me if you know which day Market Square Day will be on this year. Is it always the 2nd Saturday in June?
Evangeline in Lowell, MA est@mitre.org
EDITOR'S REPLY: Yes. Pro Portsmouth's web site still shows last year, but the Sheraton auction and dinner/dance is Friday June 12. Market Square Day race starts at 9am Saturday, June 13. Events this year include 5 live stages, 250 craft booths, food galore, kids events and fireworks If you were in a previous race, you should receive an update within a week they tell us.

EDITOR'S REPLY: What you see is what we got and, by the way, our Black History site just won Top 5% of Top 5% award from Internet Awesome Library. BABY REQUESTS PORTSMOUTH PHOTO
I am a professor of history at Grinnell College in Iowa. I'm in the process of putting together a web page on my son (who was born in Portsmouth last year) and I would like to include one of your on-line photographs as an image I use for the "Where I was Born" portion of the page. As a web designer myself, I'm very sensitive to copyright questions, so I'm writing to ask your permission. Of course, if you say yes, I would include a link to your site as part of the page. Let me know if it is o.k. with you. Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,

EDITOR'S REPLY: Yes. Low-rez photos can sometimes be used with a link and precise photo credit on family or personal pages if readers contact us with nice specific letters like above. Commercial use, electronic transfer, duplication or unauthorized use is not okay. Hi-res versions may be available too. We want to promote these excellent professional photographers. Thanks.

our readers. Those who might be able to help should
e-mail us soon. Thanks.

LETTER FROM JOHN LANGDON
I am in eighth grade, and in my history class we are going to be holding
