Strawbery Banke Presents
HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #116

The men in this 1909 photo lived largely in the 19th century. The two eldest, both in their 90s, sit in the back of a Duryea motorcar at the Portsmouth courthouse. The stern-faced gathering included a farmer, undertaker, painter, blacksmith, ship builder, music teacher, fisherman, florist, toll taker and even a former mayor.
