The Music Hall is getting ready to welcome the legendary Gladys Knight to the stage of its Historic Theater Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 7:30pm. The great ones endure, and Gladys Knight has long been the greatest. Very few singers of our time have the artistry of this eight-time Grammy Award winner. (Continued below)
The "Empress of Soul," is probably best known for her ode to her home state, “Midnight Train to Georgia.” She began performing gospel music at age four in the Mount Mariah Baptist Church. The group that would go on to be known a couple years later - as Gladys Knight & The Pips - debuted their first album in 1960, when Knight was just 16. With Knight singing lead and The Pips providing lush harmonies and graceful choreography, the group went on to achieve icon status, having recorded some of the most memorable songs of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. In 1995, Knight earned her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the next year, Gladys Knight & The Pips were inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Last fall she was honored with the "Legend Award" at the 2011 Soul Train Awards.

About the Historic Theater with newly renovated upper lobby
Step over the threshold of this landmark Victorian theater – the oldest in New Hampshire - and into the Beaux Arts Founders Lobby featuring superlative patron amenities. Upstairs, patrons will pass through the newly renovated elegant upper lobby - the perfect transition into the Victorian auditorium. It’s hard to know what to look at first - the enlarged space, the natural light, the tall ceilings dotted with three crystal chandeliers, paint and carpet colors that echo the dome in the auditorium, or the gold-toned granite counters resting on cherry cabinetry. Digital screens over the concession stand inform patrons of upcoming shows and of the upgraded menu including beer, wine and the new Music Hall chocolate bars. Then, it’s into the elegant 900-seat auditorium – now restored to its 1878 splendor – that has welcomed artists ranging from Mark Twain to Buffalo Bill Cody’s Wild West Show. Patrons greet friends and neighbors in this community great room, a gathering place for conversation dating back to the days of Frederick Douglass. The original hardwood floor and horseshoe balcony ensure superior acoustics for stage and screen events.
