HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #183
After the closing of the Portsmouth "red light" district on Water Street, ex-bordello owner Charles "Cappy" Stewart shifted inventory. Rather than sell young women he profited from old houses and antiques. This rare "wide" shot shows Cappy (right) apparently outside his Shaefe Warehouse shop in the South End in the 1930s.
