See "Memories" from Seacoast NH
Among them, a more ephemeral paper-covered booklet appeared with the giant title "Illustrated Memories of Portsmouth, York, York Harbor, York Beach, Kittery, Isles of Shoals, New Castle and Rye." Whew! The delicate booklet contains 46 large images and six pages of text. There are no page numbers and no publication date, but it appears to be soon after the turn of the century. The text references the census of 1900, no automobiles are depicted and the Appledore Hotel, photographed here, had burned by 1914. On this web page, we have selected ten images from South Coast Maine including Appledore Island, one of Isles of Shoals over the Maine border. Each has been reproduced in a large file format to make the details visible online. All of the locations, except the Appledore Hotel and Celia's Cottage, can be still be seen today. A companion page of Seacoast New Hampshire pictures will follow. (JDR) "Illustrated Memories" of South Coast, Maine
