We're in! The last week was
a flurry of visiting experts. The plumber threaded the pipes
and installed the new peopane stone. The Comcast installer connected
up our high speed Internet connection. Then the phone guy hit the wrong switch and clicked off
half the neighborhood for two days. Next door Harley the Hotdog
watched it all from the window of his favorite car.
The carpenter added the stairs to the central
command "deck" in the final 48 hours. It took a day to wire in all
the computer stuff, then another day just to fill the bookcases and
set up the work shelf on the other side of the room. Both the office
desk and the work shelf are cut from a large sheet of birch plywood.
The move came exactly eight weeks from the starting point.
We hit the budget right on the button -- no more than a basic SUV
for the whole project. We;ll be paying off the loan for years,
but we've never worked on a smoother construction project. We're
still in need of a good rug and matching window blinds, but not much
else. The shed, now called "the studio" will be connected to the
house by intercom. Now comes the landscaping.,
The total commute from office to work is now 36
feet. And now -- the fun's over and it's back to work. --
