On October 14 you're invited to tour the historic Rockingham Hotel. This grand 1870 hotel was once owned by Portsmouth ale tycoon Frank Jones. (Jones also owned Wentworth by the Sea nearby.)  It was among the finest lodging sites in 20th century Portsmouth, but today it is privately owned.

Visitors who attend this open house will get to walk through the ornate private apartments, see the original lobby, visit the rooftop garden with its amazing view of the city.

SesacoastNH.com has been invited along. We'll be adding more pictures, new and old, of this historic hotel. But there's nothing better than seeing history first hand.

So mark your calendar, and call ahead for tickets ($12 in advance, $15 at the door), for this rare opportunity. You'll see the Treaty Room of 1905, the formal dining room, the pool area, the bridal suite, and go inside six fashionably decorated condominiums -- courtesy of the occupants.
