Plans to build a reproduction of Paul Jones frigate Ranger sparked a major maritime exhibit at this year's Market Square Day in Portsmouth, NH. Among the exhibits was a display of the new Ranger Foundation web site and the launch of a Ranger Walking Tour of the city.

A warship needs canons, and the creation of the artillery for the 1777 Portsmouth built- replica are already underway. John Paul Jones himself appears to be working in the background.

Timbers will be needed in great quantity too, and so will skilled workers. The last wooden battle ship build in these parts was the USS Boxer in 1904. Old skills need to be relearned.

Sailors say it's good luck when a dolphin follows a ship. This one appeared courtesy of the Portsmouth Children's Museum and a plucky volunteer.
