Tour the John Paul Jones House

Shovel and snow shoes Today, after the big March storm, we had to snowshoe into work at the World Wide Headquarters of SeacoastNH.com. All three wooden gates that lead onto the historic house property were snowed shut. The path to our office in the old carriage house at the back was covered in 30 inches of freshly fallen white stuff. But we are, after all, from New Hampshire, and this is what New England does in winter. While others cry for heat and sun, we thrill to the solace a N'oreaster brings. The traffic slows. The phone stops. Only the Internet hums with activity. And in the quiet digging-out time, after the howling storm, we think of the garden that lives just outside our door. It's waiting there, to return, in just a month or two. Thanks to the miracle of digital photography -- and the hard work of JPJ house gardener Julie Marvin -- we offer these colorful images from last year. Can you smell the flowers from there? We can from here. - JDR
