Visit to Chebeague Island, Maine
Part 4; Chebeague Parade 1 Summer 2000

We couldn't find a patriotic parade back in our hometown of Portsmouth, so we ferried all the way to Maine. There's something about a parade on an island that can't be duplicated on the mainland. Everything has to be made from goods on the island and elements for parade floats and costumes get recycled year to year. When we arrived back at the hotel the parade was assembling right below our window.

Yes, this is a Gilligan's Island float replete with rowboat on wheels and singing cast.

Some political commentary we believe. Get enough fishermen together and you'll find plenty of border wars.

Chebeague is one of fourteen remaining year-round island communities in the State of Maine and some of these kids are the last of the true islanders. There were about 90 puppies missing from this 101 Dalmatians tableaux, but no one seemed to be counting. Click to the next web page and see the parade continue.
