HISTORIC PORTSMOUTH #154
Someone moved Gilley’s Lunch Cart? Well, not really. We found this 1960s-era photo in the archives showing Gilley’s parked in the South End. Back then it rolled over to Market Square nightly, until it was banned in the 1970s. Locals protested and a permanent site was found on Fleet St. Photo is by Carl Johnson, former commander of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
